The Northern red oak is commonly found throughout Eastern North America. It’s a fast growing, premium valued tree used for lumber and flooring. If you have the room, it’s a good landscape tree, providing shade and autumn color.
Northern red oak’s flowers support pollinating insects. Deer commonly browse leaves and young seedlings. The acorns are eaten by many large and small mammals and birds. The tree provides cover and nesting sites (including trunk cavities) for a wide variety of birds and mammals.
